ounselling Psychologist in Bristol
Therapy that takes you seriously
I work with adults navigating anxiety, burnout, relationship difficulties, and the kind of stuck feeling that's hard to put into words. Sessions are thoughtful, practical, and entirely confidential.
About Eleanor
Good therapy is collaborative
I'm a HCPC-registered Counselling Psychologist and BACP-accredited therapist with over ten years of experience in both the NHS and private practice. My approach draws on CBT, EMDR, and integrative methods — which in practice means I adapt to what's actually useful for you, rather than following a fixed script. Clients often tell me they appreciate the balance between feeling properly listened to and being gently challenged when it's helpful. I have consulting rooms in central Bristol and offer online sessions for clients across the UK.

How I can help
I offer sessions for individuals and couples, in person in Bristol and online across the UK. All sessions are confidential and conducted in a safe, non-judgmental space.
01
Individual Therapy
One-to-one sessions for anxiety, depression, burnout, life transitions, grief, and relationship difficulties. We work at a pace that's right for you.
02
EMDR for Trauma
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing — an evidence-based approach to processing difficult memories and reducing their hold on daily life.
03
Couples Therapy
For couples who want to communicate more clearly, work through a difficult period, or make thoughtful decisions about the future of their relationship.
My approach
What to expect from our work together
The first session is mostly a conversation. I want to understand what's brought you to therapy, what's felt difficult, and what you're hoping for. You don't need to have it all figured out before we meet. From there, we work collaboratively — drawing on whichever approaches are most useful for what you're dealing with. Some people want structured tools and practical strategies. Others need more space to process and reflect. Most need a combination. I'll follow your lead. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all therapy, and I won't push you toward any particular outcome. My job is to help you think more clearly, feel more fully, and move forward on your own terms.

I came to Eleanor at a point where I'd tried to manage things on my own for too long. She helped me understand what was actually going on — not just the symptoms, but the patterns underneath — and gave me practical tools to work with. I felt heard without feeling judged, which was exactly what I needed.

Common questions
Do you offer online sessions?+
Yes. I offer both in-person sessions at my consulting rooms in central Bristol and secure video sessions for clients across the UK. Many clients find online therapy works just as well as in-person, and it's particularly useful if your schedule or location makes travelling regularly difficult. Sessions take place over a platform that is fully encrypted and GDPR-compliant.
Are you covered by private health insurance?+
I'm recognised by several major UK health insurers including Bupa, AXA Health, and Vitality. If you plan to use insurance, please check your policy details and confirm your coverage before booking — terms vary between policies and providers. I'm happy to provide receipts and any documentation your insurer requires.
How long is a typical course of therapy?+
It depends on what you're working on and what you're looking for. Some people find six to twelve sessions gives them the tools and clarity they need. Others prefer to work over a longer period, particularly when the issues are longstanding or complex. We'll review how things are going at regular intervals, and you're never locked into a fixed number of sessions.
What's the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?+
The titles overlap, but the training differs significantly. As a Counselling Psychologist, I hold a doctorate-level qualification in psychology alongside clinical training — meaning I can assess, formulate, and treat a wider range of presentations than many counsellors or therapists. I'm registered with the HCPC, which means my practice is regulated by law. When choosing a therapist, it's worth verifying they hold registration with a recognised body such as the HCPC, BPS, or BACP.
